Arkwright Scholars

15 November 2006

At a recent ceremony held at the Institution of Engineering & Technology in London , three Lower Sixth students from the Royal Grammar School (RGS) Worcester received Arkwright Scholarship Awards for their outstanding work in design and technology.

The scholarships are awarded to pupils who wish to pursue a career in the field of design and engineering. In a new initiative this year, BBT Thermotechnology in Worcester has agreed to sponsor the scholars.

Scholars are selected following a rigorous selection process comprising an application, aptitude paper and interview. During the interview students presented their GCSE project work to a panel of interviewers demonstrating a commitment to design, engineering and technology. RGS has achieved considerable success in obtaining these scholarships since the introduction of the scheme. Only 173 are awarded across the UK from 803 candidates this year and it is exceptional for three pupils from one school to be selected.
