Aston Villa and RGSAO ready for Kick Off
23 October 2008
RGS Worcester & The Alice Ottley School are delighted to announce their sensational link up with long standing premiership football club Aston Villa.
The link up will see RGS The Grange become a regional base for the Midlands giants, in regard to their community activities and talent identification for girls and boys.
It will all kick off with a boys six-a-side U11 Football Tournament on Friday, November 21 open to Worcester’s local junior schools. With the competition winners from each region then competing in a grand final at historic Villa Park for the honour of representing Aston Villa in the Community FA Premier League Tournament.
Other parts of the RGSAO, Aston Villa partnership will see up to four community soccer schools a year taking place on the 40 acre RGS The Grange site and football coaching will also be provided to the RGSAO school teams, as well as other schools locally.
“A link up of this calibre is a fantastic opportunity for RGS Worcester & The Alice Ottley School and truly puts our three schools on the map as a beacon of sporting excellence,” commented Andy Rattue, Headmaster of RGS Worcester & The Alice Ottley School.
“Aston Villa are the biggest club in the Midlands and their community department offers a fantastic range of activities and coaching to both boys and girls. To have them based locally at RGS The Grange takes the school to a totally new level and means we can now strengthen our links with our community,” added Tim Lowe, Headmaster of RGS The Grange.
“As a school we offer a first class education through first class facilities. It’s great news that Aston Villa, a premiership football club has not only recognised and identified us, but also tied themselves into what we have to offer both our pupils and the wider area.”
“As a premiership football club, we are always looking to develop football for all, as well as identify new areas and top notch facilities in which to improve participation and enjoyment. We feel RGS The Grange can match our demands and together we can offer a fantastic football experience to both girls and boys across the whole Worcester area,” commented Joe Hunt, Aston Villa Football Development Officer.
“It is an exciting opportunity for us, as I hope it is for Worcester. My team and I look forward to coming to the area, visiting as many schools as possible and further developing Aston Villa’s Worcester links.”
