Cross Country Events
28 September 2006
On Wednesday 27th September, we hosted an U14 (yrs 7 & 8) cross country match for both boys and girls. Five local schools atteneded and the subsequent match was a great success. We came third in both races: a very strong Alice Ottley team won the girls race and an even stronger Chantry team won the boys.
This Wednesday we were hosts for the English Schools Athletics Association Cross Coutry Cup. Eight schools attended, a total twenty five teams running four races (Junior - yrs 7&8 - and Intermediate - yrs 9 & 10, Boys and Girls). Again, the opposition was strong: Marling Schools brought the English Schools National Champion to run in the Intermediate Boys race and had a stronger team in the Junior Boys. Cheltenham Ladies College took the honours in the girls races (winning the Intermediate and coming second in the Junior races). Our teams faired less well, the best performance being a 4th place for the Intermediate boys.
While we may not have won the races, our pupils ran well and behaved well. Particular credit should go to the sixth form students who attended both races and manned the course and finish line. None of this would have been possible without them.
