Drama Department

Every student in the school has the opportunity to make a significant contribution to this activity. The subject works in two ways: school productions and lessons within the timetable.

Currently, there are two well-qualified teachers and the subject is studied in Year Nine, as well as at GCSE, AS and A level. The department follows the Edexel syllabus. In most years, students carry on this subject to University level and past pupils are currently involved in television work, as actors in theatre companies, as television producers and as founders of a film company and a theatre company.

The Godfrey Brown Theatre (seating 200) is the base for most lessons and All School Productions, usually five per year: a Lower School production, a Year Nine to Eleven production, one each for Years the Sixth Form years as well as a major autumn production cast from across the whole school.

Productions in 2003-04 were: Accidental Death of An Anarchist (Fo), Merchant Of Venice, The Room (Pinter), Lear (Bond) and an adaptation of The Canterbury Tales.

As well as these productions, lunchtime performances are periodically given by students and the GBT also hosts the English Department's Shakespeare Shield competition for Year Seven classes.

All of this creative work is underpinned by frequent theatre visiting including a three day London visit which is offered in July.
