French....

Spanish....

We offer French, Spanish and German to GCSE, AS and A Levels. Skills in foreign languages are an asset which can be developed and used by people at work or in their personal lives, at home or abroad.

We endeavour to make pupils aware of the opportunities opening up in trade, tourism, international relations, science and other fields. Many of the skills involved in the learning of a foreign language are complementary to those practised elsewhere in the curriculum. However, we also enable pupils to explore the life-style and culture of other lands, through their languages. We aim to foster a sympathetic but not uncritical attitude towards foreign places, thus helping to promote understanding and goodwill.

If these linguistic and cultural aims are to be met, there is nothing to beat a visit to the country being studied. To this end pupils are actively encouraged to pay an initial visit to France in Year 8 on a joint Geography, History and French study break.

In Year 9 we take up to 60 boys and girls to our partner School in Nantes, France on a two week exchange visit. For those studying German there are further opportunities in Years 10 and 11 to participate in an exchange visit to Worcester's German twin town of Kleve. We also receive pupils from our new partner school in Madrid each year, which is followed later in the year by a group of our Year 11 Hispanists visiting the Spanish capital.
