Golden Goal opens RGSAO Pitch

With a carefully placed shot of a golden ball, Jane Sixsmith MBE, officially opened the brand new RGS Worcester & The Alice Ottley School all-weather pitch.

Dr Robert Ingle, Chairman of RGSAO Governors, started the proceedings by re-confirming the school's commitment to all sports. The appointment of Hockey specialist Stuart Davis, for September 2008, was part of the ongoing programme to bring boys', girls' and mixed Hockey up to the same high standard as the other sports offered at the school he said. He also congratulated the Bursar, Cmdr Mike Sime and contractors Bernhard's on bringing the pitch and pavilion contract in on-time and on-budget.

Ms Sixsmith, who represented GB in Hockey at four Olympic games, was the guest of honour at the ceremony to open the full sized, floodlit pitch which is situated at RGS The Grange, a junior school of RGSAO, in Claines. She applauded the number of County players already at the School and said that enjoying the game was the best way to go on to higher honours.

She then started a match between Worcester Hockey Club and a team of RGS Old Boys and current pupils.
