Physical Education
The aim of the PE & Games Department is to offer a wide range of activities from foundation level to advanced level. The School has a national reputation in the field of sport, notably in rugby football, soccer, cricket, athletics and rowing. However there is plenty of opportunity for all boys and girls in the school to participate in a variety of activities. The Department offers AS and A Level Physical Education to add an academic angle to our sporting prowess.
AS/A2 Courses
Physical Education at Advanced level has a multi-disciplinary approach that encompasses the scientific, the socio-cultural and the practical. It requires much of its students, focusing on the performer and performance. All theoretical work is supported by practical experiment and demonstration with the emphasis being very much 'hands on'.Entry Requirements
All students are considered on their individual merits. However, it would be fair to say that advantage will be gained by those students who have good GCSE passes in Biology/Physics, English and Maths.
You must be literate, numerate and committed to the subject.
You should genuinely appeciate and be interested in sport in the widest sense. Physical ability is a clear advantage but not a requirement. Good skills in observation and analysis are required.
Outline of AS Specification and Assessment Procedures
Module 1. Applied Anatomy and Physiology
Acquiring, performing and teaching Movement Skills.
Module 2. Contemporary Studies in PE and Sport
Module 3. Demonstration and analysis of techniques
Candidates are assessed in two activities, one individual and one game.
Outline of A2 Specification and Assessment Procedures
Module 5. Exercise Physiology (and synoptic assessment)
Module 6. Demonstration

In short, AS/A2 Physical Education is academically stimulating, physically challenging, enjoyable and worthwhile. The multi-disciplinary nature of the subject allows you to combine PE with many different subjects.
