Sports and Games

Sport plays a very important part in the life of the school and a wide-ranging programme offers considerable choice and opportunity to our pupils, whether they pursue sporting excellence or simply enjoyment through fitness and recreation.

All year groups have a games afternoon, during which a traditional games programme is followed. The major sports are Rugby, Football, Rowing, Cricket and Athletics for boys and Netball, Hockey, Athletics, Lacrosse, Rounders and Tennis for girls. In addition to these activities, a large number of activities are offered as clubs, or games options for the senior students: Cross-Country, Hockey, Swimming, Badminton, Fencing, Golf, Sailing , Trampolining, Basketball, Dance, and Weight Training.

The standard in most sports is extremely high, and excellent results are obtained in inter-school matches and competitions. The standard of coaching is very high, where expertise and commitment is passed on to the students. The school produces many County standard players, some of whom go on to gain regional and National honours. Rugby and Rowing have produced National honours in recent years.

The school has excellent sporting facilities including 50 acres of playing fields, Sports Hall, tennis courts and a small astro-pitch.

In addition to a challenging and demanding inter-school fixture list, there is also a full inter-house programme of competitions which ensures that sport is accessible to all. The school firmly believes in high standards, both in terms of pursuit of excellence and standards of behaviour.

Several sports trips, nationally and internationally take place each year. These have recently included a cricket tour to Goa, hockey, netball and football to Malta and a rugby tour to New Zealand and the Cook Islands.
