The Mervs CC
Starting: 8 July 2006 @ 2:21 PM
Ending: 8 July 2006 @ 6:21 PM
In 1998, following a chance encounter with the iconic Merv Hughes in a Worcester pub, some OE's of the vintage 1990 leavers year decided to set up a cricket side in his honour. The inaugral fixture was against the OV's; resplendent in trademark moustaches the OE's side successfully chased a target of 260 and the legend of "The Mervs" was born.
Since then the club has played regularly from village greens to Oxford colleges, with some spectacular successes and a couple of comical defeats. The emphasis is very much on the social side of cricket, the only stringent selection requirements being a sense of humour, love of cricket and beer, former attendance at RGS and access to a fake moustache.
We are always looking to expand our "squad" and fixture list, so please contact us if you would like to play the occasional game of cricket or you are part of a club who would like a fixture.
Our next match is July 8th at Worcester Cricket Club (Norton Barracks) v Harpenden Cavaliers. The bar will be open all day and so please feel free to come along and support.
