Blists Hill Year 6 Visit
28 September 2007
Sixty children from Year 6 visited the Ironbridge Gorge. They went to the Museum of Iron, which tells the story of the early Industrial Revolution and houses many exhibits from that era. The displays also include genuine items made for the Great Exhibition of 1851 held in the Crystal Palace in London. They also visited the original Blast Furnace used by Abraham Darby when he developed the coke smelting process.
From here the children visited the Blist's Hill Victorian village. They exchanged their decimal money for farthings and ha'pennies and spent a marvellous afternoon exploring the shops and businesses. Most popular of all was the Old Tyme Sweet Shop, closesly followed by the funfair. A great day out was had by all.
