Pre Prep (Years 1 & 2)
Your child will be taught Mathematics and English as core subjects. Science, History, Geography, R.E., Art, Design & Technology will be taught, mainly through topics. Your child will also learn ICT, French, Music, P.E./Games and Swimming. As there is no setting in Year One your child will usually remain with their class teacher for lessons, except for P.E./Games, Swimming and Music. Swimming and P.E. will be taught in groups.
In Year Two P.S.H.E. will be added to the curriculum and your child will also learn to play the Recorder.

Homework in Pre Prep
Children will normally be given homework on a Tuesday which should be handed in on the following Monday. It will usually consist of Maths and English or Topic.Please ensure your child completes all written homework with an HB pencil and all colouring is done with coloured pencils only.
Literacy in Pre Prep
Your child will have a new list of spellings every week, which you help them to learn for a spelling test on Fridays. Where necessary, your child may receive additional homework to reinforce their learning at school.You should encourage your child to read to you on a daily basis at home and make an appropriate comment in their homework diary. In Year Two children will be given one homework each week, usually Maths and English or Topic
P.E./Games and Swimming
The P.E. programme will allow the children to experience a wide variety of activities including Gymnastics and Dance, Ball Skills and Team and Playground Games which will all be taught by the Year One Teachers and a specialist P.E teacher.In Year One your child will have a weekly swimming session in the Michaelmas Term. The swimming sessions will take place in the teaching pool at Sansome Walk Swimming Baths. During the Trinity and Lent Terms children take part in additional physical activities, i.e. athletics and summer sports. Your child will also take part in food technology sessions during these terms.
In Year Two children will have swimming lessons in the teaching pool at Sansome Walk Swimming Baths on alternate Monday afternoons during the Lent term only. This allows extra sessions for them to expand and improve on core activity skills.
