Vision Statement
At RGS The Grange we believe that physical education should provide every pupil, through a balanced range of physical experience, access to knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes necessary to promote long-term participation in physical activity. We believe that provision should contain a balance of individual and group activities of both a co-operative and competitive nature that are appropriate to individual pupils’ needs and abilities.
Work throughout the whole school is designed to support and contribute to the aims of the school, by providing appropriate challenges that allow pupils to develop physically, socially and intellectually. The development of confidence, tolerance and an appreciation of one’s own and others’ strengths and weaknesses are considered to be essential components of the learning process.
The Importance of Physical Education
Physical education is essentially a way of learning through action, awareness and observation. It involves pupils in the continued process of planning, performing and evaluating. It also promotes such qualities as enjoyment, perseverance, enthusiasm, tolerance and reliability. As physical education focuses on the body, learning takes place through a planned diversity of movement experiences and it is this which distinguishes it from any other area of the curriculum. It is an integral part of the total education process.
Through active participation in enjoyable and purposeful physical activity children will acquire skills, values and attitudes necessary for the development of physical skills, a positive attitude to health and fitness and the acquisition of social and life skills.
